Rosenior, who took charge of his 78th and final City game at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon, met owner Acun Ilicali and vice-chairman Tan Kesler at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday morning, where he was informed that his tenure had come to an end, while club captain Lewie Coyle and vice-skipper Jacob Greaves were also met in person by the club’s board.

Hull City are hopeful of making a swift appointment in their quest to replace Liam Rosenior, who left the club after 18 months in charge on Tuesday afternoon.

The search for Rosenior’s replacement is well under way, as Ilicali is eager to name a new player in the coming days. While it is possible that the appointment will take place this weekend, sources tell Hull Live that it is more likely to happen next week, given the urgency of finding a replacement before the preseason begins.

It is said that City is interested in Sheffield. Along with QPR manager Marti Cifuentes, who did an equally impressive job at QPR in leading the R’s away from the drop while playing an open, appealing brand of football, Wednesday’s German head coach Danny Rohl saw the Owls survive after an incredible comeback at Hillsborough.

Though no choice has been made yet, Ilicali has compiled a shortlist of potential candidates. Discussions will take place over the next few days. Some of the names on the list are former Hamburg boss Tim Walter and promotion winner Steve Cooper from Nottingham Forest.

Walter is well-known in Germany and was once the youth team coach at Bayern Munich. Cooper has a clear track record in the Championship, having led Swansea City to consecutive play-off campaigns before leading Nottingham Forest from the bottom of the second division to the Premier League and then keeping the Reds up in their first season back after 23 years.

Many Tigers supporters were shocked, surprised, and disappointed by Rosenior’s abrupt departure when the team announced it on Tuesday afternoon. However, Ilicali is said to have been doubting his manager’s future since the beginning of the year, believing that City’s performance had not improved given the activity in the transfer market and the head coach himself.

While City played well, winning away from Southampton and drawing at home against Leicester City and Ipswich Town, home performances against teams like Swansea and Stoke City, which saw supporters leave early and vote with their feet, created awkward conversations in the boardroom. There were also discussions about the goalkeeper situation, with some feeling that a change should have been made much earlier after the arrival of Ivor Pandur, who cost over £1 million and failed to play a single gam

In the end, City’s run of three victories in the last 13 games to challenge for a spot in the top six proved to be insufficient, but Rosenior knew the writing was

There will be no doubt as to what the new manager’s responsibilities will be. Playoffs or bust for us. There’s going to be strain. The task at hand is to take City one step further. Rosenior performed a great job, bringing them closer than they have been in a long time.

Make no mistake about it, the task for the new manager will be clear. It will be play-offs or bust. There will be pressure. Rosenior did a fine job, he took City closer than they have been for a long time and the challenge now is to go one step further.
