Police have identified a 27-year-old woman who was found stabbed to death at her home in central London.
Kamonnan Thiamphanit, who was known as Angela, was found by officers in Stanhope Place, Westminster, on Monday.
There have been no arrests.
The Metropolitan Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over its handling of the investigation. The force said the victim’s friends contacted officers on Sunday concerned for her welfare.
Officers forced entry and said they found her dead with “a number of stab injuries”.
A post-mortem investigation found the cause of death was “sharp-force trauma”.
Detectives said they were “keeping an open mind regarding any motive”, but say they believe “it is possible that her attacker was known to her”.
The Met said it received a call “raising concerns for the welfare of the woman” at 19:05 BST on Sunday and then another from the same person at 21:34.
“The woman was initially graded as a medium risk missing person prior to the discovery of her body,” the force said.
The Met said it had informed its own Directorate of Professional Standards and a “mandatory referral will be made to the IOPC in relation to the initial contact from the woman’s friend”.
Ms Thiamphanit had dual Chinese/Hong Kong and Thai nationality and was working in London, police said.
Her family, who are overseas, have been informed.
