BREAKING: Dan Quinn is now the new Washington Commanders head coach

On Tuesday, January 9, managing partner Josh Harris presented Adam Peters as the Washington Commanders’ new GM. Now they’re looking for a head coach. Restructuring the front office and scouting is also needed. As a respected football executive, Peters is leading the franchise rebuilding.

Washington launched a head coaching search in early January and has been linked to 8 individuals. Lions OC Ben Johnson and Texans OC Bobby Slowik promised the Commanders and Seahawks they would stay. The Seattle Seahawks hired Ravens DC Mike Macdonald as their next head coach to replace Pete Carroll today. Washington’s final possibilities included Macdonald, but it was on to the next one.

Ron Rivera was dismissed on Black Monday following a 4-13 season, and Dan Quinn will replace him as Washington Commanders head coach. Quinn is the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for three seasons. Head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, he reached the Super Bowl. His squad fell to Tom Brady and the Patriots following the greatest Super Bowl comeback. Quinn was sacked four years later after failing to return to the big game. Over five seasons with Atlanta, he went 43-42.

Quinn helped Dallas’ defense drop from 29.6 points per game (28th in the league) in 2020 to 21.1 points (seventh) in his first season. Dallas led the NFL with 34 takeaways and placed eighth in scoring defense in 2021. He interviewed for five head coaching jobs before returning to Dallas. Three additional interviews followed the 2022 season, but he returned to Dallas.

The Cowboys are eighth in points and seventh in yards. They force 93 turnovers under Quinn, leading the NFL.

Quinn has made the Cowboys’ defense fearsome, ranking No. 1 in EPA per play since 2021, per TruMedia.
