Rangers manager Clement shortlists four candidates for SFWA manager of the year

The Scottish Football Writers’ Association has nominated Philippe Clement for manager of the year.

The Rangers manager is one of the four candidates on the committee’s shortlist for the end-of-season gong, which was revealed this morning.

Derek McInnes, the manager of Kilmarnock, Tony Docherty, the manager of Dundee, and Kohn McGlynn, the Falkirk resident, join Clement.

After a stellar debut in Glasgow, where he won the League Cup and put Rangers back in the running for the championship, the Ibrox manager made the short list.

Nevertheless, Celtic manager Rodgers did not make the shortlist, which means he will not be the recipient of the trophy that Ange Postecoglou took home in 2022 and 2023.

Kilmarnock, under McInnes’ leadership, is now ranked fourth in the Scottish Premiership and has already qualified for Europe the following season.

After finishing in the top six, Docherty’s Dundee were optimistic about qualifying for Europe, but their loss against St Mirren makes it less likely.

Additionally, McGlynn—who took home the PFA manager of the year award—has guided Falkirk to an unprecedented season of League One victory.

“The Committee has revealed the four-man shortlist for the 2024 William Hill SFWA Manager of the Year award,” stated an SFWA update.

In 2022 and 2023, former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou won the award, while veteran Rangers manager Walter Smith leads the pack with seven victories throughout his illustrious tenure in the dugout.

“There might be a new winner of the award this season, and Philippe Clement, the current Ibrox incumbent, is among the contenders. In addition to John McGlynn of League One winners Falkirk and Tony Docherty of Dundee, Derek McInnes of Kilmarnock is vying for the title a second time, having won it at Aberdeen during the 2013–14 season.

“The winner will be revealed on Sunday, May 19, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow, prior to our yearly awards event. In due order, the coveted Player of the Year shortlist will be revealed.”
