Ayrshire parents are on alert after kids were added to ‘horrific’ WhatsApp group chats.
A police investigation is underway after one parent claimed ‘hundreds’ of children were apparently added to a chat with ‘indecent’ images.
East Ayrshire Council has warned parents today in a message urging them to be aware of their child’s mobile phone content and usage.
Police say that enquiries into the matter are currently ongoing after being reported this afternoon.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “An investigation is under way after we received a report relating to inappropriate communications on an online platform. The matter was reported on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 and enquiries are ongoing.”
An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson added: “East Ayrshire Council can confirm that reports have been received of children and young people being added to group chats on an online platform, where the content has a level of inappropriateness. A message has been issued via the school app asking parents and carers to make themselves aware of their child or young person’s mobile phone usage and content.
