The race to sign Hull KR centre Corey Hall is now being led by Wakefield Trinity. According to Rugby League Live, the Championship team is in the lead over their West Yorkshire rivals, the Castleford Tigers, to sign him for the 2025 campaign.

Last week, Love Rugby League made public the news that the two neighbours were in competition to sign the 21-year-old to a long-term contract. He still has a contract with Hull KR for the upcoming season, but he is currently on loan at Castleford.

The two clubs made their moves because Rovers allowed him to look for a deal elsewhere for the upcoming season. Jack Broadbent left in what will become a permanent move starting with the upcoming season as part of the agreement that saw Hall sign a loan to play for the Tigers. This has given Rovers another center-field option, and Peta Hiku’s mid-season departure has increased competition for Oliver Gildart and Tom Opacic there as well.

Although Hall was put to the test at back-row, head coach Willie Peters acknowledged that Hall had a desire to play at centre. Broadbent can play across the backline. In light of this, Hall would have fierce competition at Craven Park for consistent playing time, and moving would make it easier for him to pursue those objectives.

This venture now seems to be at Wakefield, where Hall played in 2022 after joining from Leeds Rhinos, where he was developed through the academy. He was a part of the trade that saw Trinity sign Will Dagger the previous season. However, it now seems likely that Hall will rejoin the club after about 18 months.

It would be a further setback for Castleford, who have been trying in vain to sign new players for the 2025 campaign. Although the Tigers are actively negotiating with players in the UK and abroad, they have not been successful in adding any more players to their roster.
