The Warrington Wolves have unveiled a new retro shirt that pays homage to their 1997 season. Magic Weekend is one of the two events on which the strip will be worn.

With their striking colour scheme, The Wire have always developed eye-catching kits, and Primrose and Blue, their most recent release, is no exception. Designed to be worn twice during the 2024 campaign, it will be worn against Leeds Rhinos in August at Magic Weekend and in the forthcoming “retro round” against Wigan in early June.

Warrington Wolves released a statement on their website explaining the idea for the new third shirt, in addition to confirming the new design on their social media outlets.

Warrington Wolves is thrilled to introduce their official third uniform for 2024, which honours the Wire jersey from the 1997 Super League campaign.

The men’s first team will don the uniform twice this season: on Saturday, June 1st, in our forthcoming “retro round” against Wigan Warriors, and on Saturday, August 17th, at Magic Weekend at Elland Road against Leeds Rhinos.

The shirt features a distinctive checkered design on the collar and sleeves, alternating between vertical stripes of blue and primrose. Our current shirt sponsors are prominently shown in the throwback design, which also incorporates the club’s iconic triangle logo from that era.

Warrington Wolves new third shirt advert goes down a storm

The shirt has drawn interest online from supporters of other teams as well as Warrington Wolves, in part because of the excellent marketing film that Wire has been using to advertise it.

In addition to the original statement introducing the shirt, the promotional film features a fan discovering their old 1997 shirt while relocating, a reference to Greenalls, the shirt’s sponsor from 1997.

It’s difficult to watch without getting nostalgic, and the shirt definitely does—it even sports the old club badge rather than the new one.

To evoke those feelings from the past, the shirt has a checkered collar and the insignia is woven as well.

Warm-up t-shirts featuring the 1997 away kit design have also been released, albeit they are in limited supply.

The Warrington Wolves statement contained the following pricing information: “The shirt is priced at £38 for juniors and £52 for adults, and it is available online now and at the official club store starting at 9am on Friday. You are not permitted to combine any in-store discounts or offers with your purchase. It is also not possible to buy the socks and shorts.

Based on the 1997 away kit design, a very small quantity of our warm-up t-shirts are also offered for £40 in-store and online.
