The owners claim that the neighbouring theater’s closure was “the final straw.”
A well-liked eatery in the Cabot Circus retail centre in Bristol has announced its closure.

After five years, Coal Kitchen, which was next to the Showcase Cinema de Lux, is closing.

The family-run restaurant’s owners claimed that the movie theater’s closure in November 2023 was “the final straw” in a post on the restaurant’s Instagram account.

“We are saddened to announce that after five wonderful years, we have decided to close Coal Kitchen, Cabot Circus,” the full statement says.

“As a family-run restaurant, we have not made this decision lightly, but the last year of operating in Cabot has been increasingly difficult due to the implementation of new vehicle fees, rising energy and food expenses, and the closing of Showcase Cinema next door, which was the last straw.

“Sadly, this meant that in order to make this a viable location, we were unable to agree on reasonable terms with our landlord.”
