A “struggling” father reportedly passed away in custody after calling the police to ask for assistance. Piotr Rak, also known as Peter and going by the nickname Raku, was reportedly arrested on Saturday morning, May 18, but the following day, he was found dead in his cell. On Sunday, May 19, Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called to the Swindon custody suite at Gablecross Police Station at around 7:15 a.m. Local ambulance crews and critical care medics from the charity arrived to administer urgent treatment, but the 37-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

a single father According to his family, Peter was fighting alcohol and drug addictions in addition to a cardiac problem.

They think that when police responded to his plea for help, they discovered him intoxicated in his car, which resulted in his arrest and subsequent detention in Swindon.

A family member who wants to stay anonymous told Wiltshire 999s today (Monday): “We’re not happy with the police.” They haven’t been there to protect him.

“He called them to ask for assistance, but ended up dying in their cells.”

They contend that rather than being left to suffer from alcohol withdrawal, Peter ought to have been brought to a hospital for treatment prior to being placed in the cells.

“He was on 15-minute checks, according to the cops, but if he was drinking withdrawal, which he has experienced in the past, he would have a [seizure],” they continued.

“They should have taken him straight to the hospital for a drip or had a medic there making sure he was okay, given the amount of alcohol that [the police] said he had in his body.”

Rather, they detain him there for a full day before calling for an ambulance at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. That is after a full day.

Everyone is aware that a person with an alcohol addiction will experience withdrawal. That’s essentially a death sentence—24 hours—and that’s exactly what they did.

“In my opinion, my uncle wasn’t a horrible man; despite his addictions, he was self-centered but wouldn’t hurt a fly.

“My uncle has always put in a great deal of effort. He worked as a delivery driver and owned his own company for bigger companies like Yodel too.”

“We have begun an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in custody at Gablecross police station in Swindon on Sunday morning,” an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOCP) spokeswoman stated.

“We are aware that the man was detained during the weekend and that he became ill early yesterday morning, May 19.”

“An ambulance came by shortly, but at about nine in the morning, it was announced that he was dead.

Soon after, Wiltshire Police notified us and we launched our own independent investigation.

“To start gathering evidence, IOPC investigators attended the police post-incident procedures.”

According to Wiltshire Police, they were unable to respond to the allegations.

“It would not be appropriate for us to comment at this time as this is the subject of an independent investigation by the IOPC,” a spokeswoman stated.
