Hooker Reiss Butterworth of Hull KR has secured another loan move, returning to a previous club. The Robins hooker, who attracted Rovers’ attention last season, has agreed to a short-term loan with Championship team Dewsbury Rams.

Butterworth’s performances earned him a chance with the Robins this season after he was named League 1 Player of the Year the previous season as the Rams won promotion. He hasn’t made his team debut yet, though, as Matt Parcell and Jez Litten have both avoided injuries thus far this season.

He played in Sunday’s reserve grade team victory over Wakefield Trinity. He will now support Dewsbury, who have struggled since returning to the second tier and are currently bottom of the league after winning just one of their first eight games.

Butterworth will depart at the end of the season, as confirmed by the RFL off-contract list, and the Robins will not extend their offer to him. Rovers could have chosen to extend his contract, but they have chosen not to.

In the meantime, it looks Rovers will be looking for a new hooker as part of their 2025 recruitment plans, though it’s unclear who they target given Matt Parcell is also expected to depart at the end of the year.

Butterworth declared, “I’m really excited to be back at Dewsbury on a short-term loan and get some good game time.” “I’m excited to get started because this group of boys and staff is really great.”
