Journalist Alan Nixon reports that Halifax Town is eager to sign Sunderland midfielder Caden Kelly this summer as they continue their transfer plans.
Because of his outstanding performances in the North East this season, Halifax has expressed interest in signing the 20-year-old, who has been a key member of Sunderland’s U21 team. The transfer window opens in the summer.
Kelly, how did you do last season?
The Irishman has played a significant role in Sunderland’s youth teams and has made two appearances in the first team thus far in his career.
Due to an injury, Kelly only made 14 appearances across all competitions during the 2023–24 season, but he still managed to score 13 goals for the Black Cats. Kelly is currently contributing nearly one goal every ninety minutes on average. Earlier this month, in a play-off round of sixteen match against Wolves U21s, Kelly recorded three assists.
Is this a long-term agreement or a loan?
Regarding whether Kelly’s planned relocation to Halifax Town would be a loan or a permanent change, journalist Alan Nixon has not yet responded. Kelly’s professional contract expires in June 2024, but the team announced that he has been retained in advance of the upcoming campaign.
Kelly most likely had a contract option in his agreement, which the Black Cats have exercised in order to keep him on staff for the upcoming summer window.
Is Kelly a suitable fit for Halifax?
During the 2023–2024 season, Halifax Town earned a spot in the National League play-offs; however, their hard work came to an end when they lost to Solihull Moors in the quarterfinals.
Kelly, though, has a little first-team experience and is a proven player for Sunderland’s U21 team. These qualities could help Halifax going into the next National League season. Additionally, he can play a variety of positions, which will give the Halifax attack even more versatility come next season.
