EMS and police were dispatched to a significant police incident in Birley, Sheffield.
A woman was gravely hurt in a Sheffield police interaction, and a man has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

It follows the early Sunday morning closure of a portion of Wadsworth Avenue on the Birley estate, close to Frecheville, following the dispatch of emergency personnel.

Locals described seeing paramedic teams from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and South Yorkshire Police officers responding to the incident.

Police have confirmed to The Star today that they have taken into custody a guy who is suspected of attempted murder and false imprisonment.

“We were called at around 8.30am to a report of concern for the safety of a woman at an address on Wadsworth Avenue in Birley, Sheffield,” the police stated in a statement.

“Officers and specialised resources arrived, and while they worked, the road was closed.”

At the site, a 42-year-old male was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder and wrongful imprisonment. He’s still being held by the cops.

“A woman who suffered severe injuries was brought to the hospital and is undergoing treatment.”

There was no continuing risk to the public, they stated, and it was assumed that the victim and the suspect knew one another.

Should force be used while the suspect is being held, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) must be notified.

Anyone with information that could help officers is asked to call 101 as inquiries are still ongoing.
