Photos showing the aftermath of a serious lorry crash on the M40 motorway, which is currently under investigation by police, have been released by fire crews.

Today, June 7, at 5:16 a.m., the Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service received a call on the M40, heading north, immediately beyond Junction 9.

Four fire engines from Bicester Fire Station, two from Oxford’s Rewley Road Fire Station, and a rescue tender—a specialised heavy rescue unit—from Kidlington Fire Station were dispatched.

A truck was discovered on its side.

The trapped driver was freed by the fire and rescue crew.

The motorist is currently under the care of paramedics after an ambulance arrived at the scene.

The police are currently looking into what caused the accident.

Because the northbound lane was blocked and there were five miles of standing traffic on the southbound side, the incident caused significant traffic disruptions during rush hour.

The A34 northbound between Islip to Weston on the Green and the exit from Bicester also experienced delays.

There was also a signposted diversion via Middleton Stoney that came to an end.

While necessary repairs are made to the carriageway, the northbound M40 will stay blocked for some time.
