Former Pitt Panthers quarterback Kedon Slovis regrets shooting West Virginia before the 2022 Backyard Brawl.

PIT — Pitt Panthers quarterback Kedon Slovis won over his new fans for one weekend. Slovis threw for 308 yards and a score in a 2022 win over West Virginia and took a colorful jab at the Mountaineers at a pep rally.

“F*** West Virginia!” Slovis yelled from a podium in front of Pitt’s Cathedral of Learning, surrounded by hundreds of students.

Slovis, who played 2022 at Pitt, went to BYU for one more year, then declared for the NFL Draft, regrets his pre-Backyard Brawl statement.

“I tell people now, if I regret one thing from my college career, it’s probably that,” Slovis told Pittsburgh Sports today’s Nick Farabaugh at the Shrine Bowl in Frisco, Texas this week. It was peer pressure, not my style. I recall one coach saying, “Hey, you didn’t hear it from me.” You should say. All the captains said, “We’ll be in trouble if we say it, but you should say it.”

Slovis said he’s faced much fire for his statements since leaving Pitt, but he still has no bad feelings for the Mountaineers, even after facing them in the Big XII this season with the Cougars.

Once again, they dislike one other. West Virginia shouts ‘Eat S*** Pitt,’ very humorous “Slavis told Farabaugh. “I told one of the [West Virginia] players, ‘Man, your fans don’t like me very much,’ because we went back this year. ‘Well sure, buddy, obviously.’ ‘Yeah, that’s fair, I deserve it.’ No hate anymore—I’m out of Pittsburgh.”

Slovis, who transferred from USC to replace Kenny Pickett, completed 58% of his passes for 2,397 yards, 10 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 11 games with the Panthers before joining BYU.
