According to Pete O’Rourke, defender Jacob Bedeau is expected to sign for Notts County on a free transfer.
Notts County is getting ready for League Two’s second season.

After being promoted from the National League, they finished 14th the previous season, but even though they were in the bottom half, they were just nine points out of the postseason.

This season, Stuart Maynard’s team hopes to close that difference, and they plan to bring in another player.

Bedeau, 24, represented Morecambe in 43 League Two games the previous year. He assisted one centre back goal and scored two himself.

The defender, who was born in London, played for the youth teams of Aston Villa and Burnley before moving to Scunthorpe in League Two.

Now that he appears certain to depart on a free transfer following three seasons with the Shrimps, Notts County is in position to sign him.

It would be disappointing for Morecambe’s supporters to see Bedeau join a direct opponent given they finished just one spot below Notts County in the previous campaign.

While the Shrimps were in League One not too long ago, Notts County is most likely to follow given the way the two teams are currently doing.

The 24-year-old Grenada international wants to establish himself as a mainstay in Notts County’s defence, therefore he’ll be looking to start strong under Maynard the next campaign.

Beginning strong, since Luke Williams left for Swansea City, Maynard has managed 19 games for Notts County.

Only five of those games have been won by the former Wealdstone manager, so he will understand how crucial it is for his team to start improving early in the upcoming campaign.

If not, pressure will mount, and it won’t be simple to replace Williams’ legacy at the team.

However, a lot will depend on their summer activities. Although Bedeau is a good addition, it may be argued that keeping Macaulay Langstaff for another season, despite interest from the Championship, is the finest move Notts County could make this summer.
