The 1966–1967 Wembley team member Bill Burgess passed away, according to a statement from the BARROW Raiders.

Burgess was dubbed “one of the club’s all-time greats” by the Raiders. In 222 games for Barrow in the 1960s, he scored 179 tries before moving to Salford. In the club’s all-time try scorers list, this places him third.

He also represented Great Britain and England internationally, playing rugby union for Furness RUFC and Fylde RUFC.

Burgess participated in Barrow’s 12–17 loss to Featherstone Rovers in the 1966–67 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

A club representative stated: “Bill also briefly served on the Board of Directors and was always beaming with joy and contagious with energy. Everyone who knew him will deeply miss this gentleman who embodied elegance and grace in life.

“Our thoughts go out to Bill’s family and many friends.”
