Leigh Leopards land rising Championship star after impressive rise

Exclusive: In front of the 2025 campaign, the Leopards have signed a new player.

One of the brightest young players in the Championship is expected to join with the Leigh Leopards as part of their 2025 recruiting class. According to Rugby League Live, Andy Badrock of the Swinton Lions is the most recent player to catch the attention of the team ahead of the upcoming campaign, and he will be a member of Adrian Lam’s team in 2019.

Over the past few years, Badrock has made a successful transition from the amateur game to the Championship, joining Swinton for the Leigh Miners Rangers in advance of the 2023 campaign. He had a great rookie season with Swinton, finishing with seven tries in 25 games to rank as the team’s top scorer.

He went on to score five tries in eight Championship games this season, earning him the title of club’s young player of the year at the conclusion of the campaign.

That is something that the Leopards, who signed forward Louis Brogan from Swinton last year, are aware of. Although Badrock, who is only 23 years old, has spent most of his time at centre, he has also made appearances at back-row this season.

This year, Leigh plans to conduct a fair recruitment drive because several high-earning players will be departing the team at the end of the campaign. They reportedly reached an agreement with David Armstrong and put in a bid for Rhyse Martin, the back-rower for the Leeds Rhinos, hoping to sign him for the next season.

Regarding Swinton, Badrock’s exit from the Super League would make him one more player on the rising roster of athletes who have qualified for the elite league after playing for their club. Two other guys who were Lions players before making the move up the ranks are Matty Ashton and Andy Ackers.
