Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a man was discovered in a field. Officers were called to Ashton Road in Ashton Common, near Trowbridge in Wiltshire, at around 1.30pm on Thursday, March 7, following a 999 call from a member of the public reporting that they had found a body on the rural site.
Detectives believe the man would have been aged in his 30s or 40s when he died and could have been there for up to a week. Forensic work is ongoing at the scene and specially trained officers are combing the area for clues.
Detective Inspector Eirin Martin said: “We are working hard to establish the identity of this person and urgently contact his next of kin. An investigation is also underway to establish circumstances of his death and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to provide more clarity about how he died.”
