According to Football Transfers, Tottenham Hotspur has formally proposed to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney this summer.

The center-forward is one of the positions that the Lilywhites are reportedly aiming to bolster this summer. Toney is starting to emerge as the top choice, however a few other names have been connected to a move to the recently refurbished White Hart Lane.

Tottenham has reportedly increased its efforts to sign the Englishman and have already reached a personal terms agreement with him, according to a report by Football Transfers.

The article also states that Tottenham has made a formal offer estimated to be worth £40 million, having completed negotiations over the player’s personal terms.

But according to Football Transfers, Brentford  have turned down the offer since they’re hoping for a sum of approximately £65 million; nonetheless, £55 million would be sufficient to close the deal for the North London team.

The source also asserts that Tottenham is currently in a strong financial situation, suggesting they may meet the Bees’ asking price to lure Toney to the recently renovated White Hart Lane.

The forward, who is now in his last season at Brentford, has decided to pursue a new challenge in his career rather than sign an extension with the West London team.

Spurs seem to be Toney’s most likely destination if he decides to leave Brentford in the coming weeks. Toney has been connected to Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal during the last few weeks.

The forward is currently travelling outside of England in order to compete in the European Championship in Germany.
