It appears that a Sheffield Wednesday player will sign a summer contract with a League One team.
When compared to the beginning of the previous season, Sheffield Wednesday appears to have a significantly changed first-team roster.
After managing the team to a 20th-place finish in the Championship the previous season, Danny Rohl, the Owls are making some very significant changes on the pitch this summer.
Following the formalisation of a new three-year deal for Rohl by owner Dejphon Chansiri, Sheffield Wednesday has been actively pursuing trades.
Ben Hamer and Max Lowe are the first two permanent additions to Rohl’s Hillsborough team. There are rumours that the Owls and Ian Poveda are in talks elsewhere.
As contracts officially expire on June 30th, many more may depart S6, even if more appear likely to come this summer.
Cameron Dawson, a custodian born in Sheffield, is one of those without a contract; although he was given the opportunity to sign a new one, it appeared that Dawson would be moving on with Hamer’s arrival.
Since then, Dawson, 28, has been connected to League One team Bristol Rovers.
Last season, James Beadle, a Brighton loanee, replaced Dawson in the Sheffield Wednesday starting lineup, which meant the veteran Wednesday goalie lost his spot.
While Dawson now appears certain to go as a free agent, Rohl is eager for Beadle to make a comeback this summer.
The Star is reporting that there have been speculations that Dawson is in talks with Bristol Rovers, a League One team, and that these rumours are “accurate.”
The Star adds that Dawson is “likely” to sign a contract with the Bristol Rovers and that he will see former Owls teammate Jack Hunt again at Memorial Stadium.
Now that Dawson appears to be leaving and Hamer has arrived, the top position is the only one left to fill.
After his successful loan stint with Sheffield Wednesday the first time around, Rohl will undoubtedly be itching for Beadle to return and play a complete season in the Championship.
The 19-year-old made enormous developmental progress in a short amount of time, and it’s possible that Dawson provided Beadle with encouragement and a lot of advice along the road.
However, Dawson might benefit more from a move away to a place where he can receive more first-team experience at the age of 28, especially after a challenging season.
If Dawson is signed, Bristol Rovers will have a highly valuable custodian because he is still an experienced player who has excelled in League One.
Sheffield Wednesday has a busy summer ahead of them. Despite this, there are a number of promising improvements this summer.
