This summer will see the completion of a £30 million project that will enhance the quality of the water in the River Yeo as it passes through Yeovil. The Yeovil Pen Mill Water Recycling Centre, located east of the town, is undergoing a two-year improvement that will assist enhance the quality of storm water that reaches rivers and remove more contaminants from sewage, protecting the environment in south Somerset.

The effort to improve sewage treatment and safeguard the county’s waterways will continue through the end of the year with testing and commissioning of the new equipment on site. After several years of planning, designing, and getting ready, work on the big overhaul officially began in October 2022. The modification will greatly enhance the extraction of nutrients from treated wastewater leaving the site.
