Murder investigation launched after 27-year-old found death in Northampton

A group of up to four males attacked a man who was sitting on a bench.
Following an assault in the town, a 27-year-old man from Northampton passed away in the hospital, prompting detectives to open a murder inquiry.

After collapsing on Tuesday, the man was sent to Northampton General Hospital. His family notified the police that he had been beaten on Tuesday.

After receiving a major head injury, the man was subsequently admitted to University Hospital Coventry; tragically, he passed away yesterday.

In the upcoming days, Leicester Royal Infirmary will conduct a forensic post-mortem.

At the time of publication, Northamptonshire Police had not released the victim’s name; however, his family had released a photo of him.

Investigators from the Major Crime Team of the East Midlands Specialist Operations Unit are currently looking into what happened before he passed away, and they would welcome any information that could be helpful.

“Having spoken with the man’s relatives, we believe he was assaulted by a group of up to four men while in the vicinity of the Racecourse at some point between 6am and 8pm on Tuesday,” stated Detective Chief Inspector Adam Pendlebury, who is in charge of the inquiry.

We’re moving quickly to piece together the events leading up to this attack, which seems to have left the man with fatally injured injuries.

“We currently have an increased patrol presence in the Racecourse area and are very keen to speak with anyone who may have information which will help our enquiries. I know there will be concern within the local community at what has happened, so I would urge anyone who is worried to speak with one of our officers.”

The man’s family is receiving help from specially qualified cops during this extremely trying time, and our thoughts are with them all as they grieve.
