22, dies in Topsham Road crash as pedestrian, 82, fights for life

Here’s everything we know about today’s tragic crash on Topsham Road

Tragic information regarding today’s horrific incident on Exeter’s Topsham Road have been confirmed by the police.

The motorcycle’s rider, who was only 22 years old, passed away at the site in spite of attempts to save him.

After colliding with the motorbike and its rider, an 82-year-old pedestrian was taken to Derriford Hospital, where he is still critically injured in his legs.

The road will stay blocked as forensic teams continue their investigation at the location, which is outside the Aldi supermarket, the Force has also confirmed.
The crash happened at around 3pm this afternoon

Before the teenage rider was declared dead on the side of the road, Devon Air Ambulance paramedics were obliged to perform open heart surgery on hSgt. Harry Tangye, who was on the scene this afternoon, originally verified the death and stated that paramedics “gave him every bit of hope possible.”

There were numerous police traffic units, two air ambulance helicopters, three ambulances, and two quick response cars among the many emergency services personnel that responded to the scene

How to avoid Topsham Road as crash scene investigation continues

Police are advising cars to stay away from the area as Topsham Road is expected to remain closed for at least two or three hours.

The A376 and Sandygate roundabout provide as an alternate route between the two locations.

From Countess Wear, drivers heading towards Exeter should take the A379, which crosses the Sandygate roundabout and heads onto the A376 Exmouth Road.

Turn right at the St George and Dragon roundabout and proceed past Darts Farm into the town of Topsham.

You can take the other path to go from Topsham to Exeter.
