Blain Marwood, a half-back/hooker for Workington Town, has been signed by the Barrow Raiders for a two-week loan.

Since the forward hasn’t played much in the Championship, Mike Ogunwole of the Raiders has joined the League One team in exchange.

The former Town half-back Dean’s son, Blain, made his Workington debut in 2019 and has since made 33 appearances for the team, five of which have come this season.

Ogunwole, who was born in London, signed a 12-month contract with Barrow earlier this year after having a successful trial period.

Originating from Nigeria, he plays rugby league mainly as a loose forward and centre. After playing rugby union for a while, he started playing rugby league at the age of 13, and the London Broncos scholarship programme quickly accepted him.

At 16, he stopped playing the sport, but within the past two years, the Nigerian national team and the British army have lured him back into the fold.

As for Marwood with the Raiders, Barrow said they hope the forward will have an opportunity to gain more game experience after moving to Town.

Injury-prone Prior to Sunday’s home match against Keighley Cougars, Town has also been able to bolster their roster with another fresh face.

In order to sign outside back Joe Hartley on a two-week loan, they have returned to Rochdale Hornets.

He joins Tommy Brierley, a Hornets teammate who has been playing for Town for the past two games and who scored on his debut. Tommy Brierley’s loan has been extended.

Before joining Rochdale ahead of this season, Hartley, 25, played three seasons as an amateur for Oldham St Annes before turning pro with the Oldham Roughyeds in 2021.

In his ten games this season, he has nine tries for the Hornets, but he hasn’t played since the team’s 24-18 victory over Newcastle Thunder last month.
