Birmingham City take over done deal from Huddersfield Town

Football Insider has been informed by sources that Birmingham City have hijacked Huddersfield Town’s Alfie May deal and have had Charlton Athletic accept their bid.

It is believed that the Blues have made an impromptu offer of £775,000 to Charlton for May, who finished first in League One, scoring 23 goals.

The Addicks have accepted the offer in an effort to outbid Huddersfield, whose £750,000 offer was first accepted, as Football Insider reported on June 28.

With a year left on his contract at The Valley, May will now speak with Birmingham after being given the all-clear to talk personal terms with Huddersfield. Charlton is hoping to take advantage of this demand.

The 30-year-old, who came to the team from Cheltenham Town in 2023, scored 27 goals in all competitions during the previous season.

Birmingham City take over Huddersfield

In an attempt to mount an instant Championship comeback, Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town, who were both demoted to League One at the end of the previous season, have both appointed new managers and are active in the transfer market.

After his miraculous performance in 2023–24, May continues to prove himself in League One, accounting for over a third of Charlton’s league goals despite the team’s meagre 16th-place result.

Due to his contract situation, it is very likely that the 30-year-old will leave The Valley this summer. Competing teams have already made sizable bids for him.

Chris Davies, the new manager of Birmingham, will be looking for players who have shown they can play at a higher level. May is a versatile forward who is thought to meet this requirement.

The only summer addition made by the Blues thus far is goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.

Michael Duff’s Huddersfield is also pursuing a promotion and, considering their clout in the transfer market, may make a higher offer after selling Jack Rudoni to Coventry City for approximately £5 million.
