A portion of Lyon defender Jake O’Brien’s next move will be owed to Crystal Palace as the Republic of Ireland international is attracting significant Premier League interest.

After an outstanding season in Ligue 1, O’Brien is expected to return to the Premier League this summer, which will provide the Eagles with a substantial financial windfall.

Mail Sport has learned that when Selhurst Park transferred the defender to Lyon in the summer, the player had a sell-on clause worth up to 25%. It is unclear, though, if Palace would be able to recover that amount based on how much Lyon would profit from the defender’s possible departure.

O’Brien is rumoured to be going for about £15 million. He was only signed by Lyon for £850,000.

The 6’6″ centre back, who was discovered by Palace’s renowned scouting network, which has produced players like Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, and Adam Wharton, left South London in August 2023 when the Premier League team arranged a deal with Lyon, who are owned by Eagles co-owner John Textor.
