Daryl Powell has secured another new signing ahead of the 2025 season.

Olly Russell, a halfback for the Huddersfield Giants, has officially joined Wakefield Trinity. Rugby League Live initially reported in January that the playmaker has teamed up with the Championship leaders, who are getting ready to return to Super League action in 2019.

The England Knights international has committed to play with Daryl Powell’s team for the upcoming season, joining Tom Johnstone, Mike McMeeken, and Cam Scott on a four-year deal.

The 25-year-old, who made his Giants debut as a teenager, is getting close to 100 appearances. But next year, he’s going to travel all around West Yorkshire.
Russell stated, “I’m really excited to be joining Wakefield Trinity for the next four years and hopefully longer.” I’m confident that working with Daryl and the other coaching staff will help me continue to advance my skills and broaden my knowledge.

“The team is progressing both on and off the pitch, and they have added some outstanding players to complement the calibre they already possess. I’m looking forward to the challenge of bringing more cutlery back to Belle Vue because of this. 2025 will see you, Wakey Fans.

“Olly is a quality halfback with so much potential to develop into a top line player,” Powell continued. I think he needs to establish himself as a team’s main organising halfback at this point in his career, and we are happy to provide him with the chance to do so.

He is an excellent communicator and a strong competitor who, in my opinion, will consistently bring out the best in those around him. I’m forward to collaborate with him in the upcoming years as we try to accomplish our objectives at Wakefield.

“Bringing in a player of Olly’s calibre is a statement of intent for Wakefield Trinity,” said recruitment manager Ste Mills. “I’m sure he will be a huge success and we look forward to welcoming him for the 2025 season. Fighting off Super League clubs to secure his signature shows that Olly believes in the project and has fully bought into this special journey we are on at Wakefield Trinity.”
