Swansea City are targeting a move for Oxford United forward Mark Harris after the player helped secure promotion to the Championship.
The former Cardiff City man has reportedly become a target for the Welsh side after impressing in the third-tier last season. He scored 19 goals across all competitions, contributing five assists in 55 appearances for Des Buckingham’s side.
He played 90 minutes in all three play-off games as they came out 2-0 victors over Bolton Wanderers at Wembley in the Final in May.
Should the 25-year-old make the move to the Swans, it will be the fourth Welsh side he has played for in his career, having progressed through the ranks at Cardiff City and enjoying spells at Newport County and Wrexham. He also spent the latter half of the 2018/19 season with Port Vale in League Two. Harris also has five caps for the Welsh National Team.
Harris only linked up with Oxford in the summer of 2023, on a free transfer from Cardiff City and according to Alan Nixon, could be set to depart after just 12 months.
A fourth Welsh club?
In the EFL, there are currently four Welsh clubs, Swansea City, Cardiff City, Wrexham and Newport County and should Harris make the move, he will have represented all of them. There has been a tendency for Welsh sides to favour top Welsh talent when looking for potential recruits and the addition of Harris does appear to be a natural fit.
The player performed well in League One last season and is arguably ready to take the step up to the Championship. Oxford will have a tough time adapting to the league, which can be unforgiving if you enter the season unprepared.
