Blackburn Rovers are considering Luton Town ‘keeper Timr Kul as an alternative to John Ruddy, Alan Nixon has said on his Patreon. Blackburn Rovers are in the market for new recruits as John Eustace embarks on his first transfer window at the helm of the club. He’ll be keen to shape the squad to his liking as Rovers bid to push back up the Championship table. Much of last season was spent fighting relegation, and vast improvements are needed if they’re to avoid a similar scrap next time around. It seems a new goalkeeper is among the signing wanted, with departing Birmingham City man John Ruddy heavily linked with a Eustace reunion at Ewood Park.
However, reporter Alan Nixon claims that Blackburn Rovers are considering another in a post on his Patreon page.
The Lancashire team may try to strengthen their goalkeeping options by bringing in experienced Tim Krul from Luton Town if they are unable to get Ruddy. The Dutchman reportedly has ambitions to transfer to Kenilworth Road, where he is more likely to find starting football after Thomas Kaminski, a former number one for the Rovers, secured the position.
The senior options that are currently on the books are Leopold Wahlstedt and Aynsley Pears. Wahlstedt watched from the sidelines when Pears was available as they competed for the starting position last season, with the former emerging victorious.
There is room for a third selection, but an academy player might very possibly fill it if necessary.
Eustace seemed eager to contribute his knowledge with Ruddy and the recent Krul connection. There have also been concerns over Wahsltedt’s future as a 2023 signing; while some Scandinavian ties have surfaced, they haven’t yet materialised into anything substantial.
He will make room for someone else to enter if he moves on. It’s unclear, though, if that’s Ruddy, Krul, or someone else.
Krul is a custodian with experience, thus Blackburn Rovers should try to sign him.
His only action for Luton Town was in cup tournaments last season; up until that point, he was first choice for Norwich City. During his tenures with Newcastle United and the Canaries, he gained extensive expertise in both the Championship and Premier League, and he also has an international background.
For Rovers, Krul may be a wise addition, either as a backup or as the new starting ‘keeper. It appears like a plausible signing as well, provided that a contract can be worked out and won’t break the bank.
It remains to be seen if the reported interest materialises, as rumours around potential Blackburn Rovers additions this summer are rampant.
