Leicester Tigers, a team in the Gallagher Premiership, have officially announced that they have split with head coach Dan McKellar.

After a difficult season that saw them end in eighth place in the ten-team Premiership, the Midlands team confirmed the news this afternoon via a statement posted on their club website.

“The Leicester Tigers are able to reveal that Dan McKellar is leaving his position as head coach effective immediately.

The decision has been reached by mutual consent after careful consideration of the club’s future course.

“McKellar left the Wallabies, where he was the assistant coach for the Australian national team, to join Tigers in July 2023. During the 23–24 season, he oversaw 30 games across all competitions for Tigers.

Pre-season training for the men’s players who are not on international duty begins on July 1 at Oval Park. “We thank Dan for his contribution to Leicester Tigers and wish him, Carla, Amelie, and Maya well for the future.” The club has started the search for a new head coach to lead the men’s programme into the 24/25 season. The Tigers have reportedly lined up several experienced candidates, with former Leinster, NSW Waratahs, Australia, and Argentina coach Michael Cheika among the front-runners.
