Leopold Wahlstedt, the goalie for Blackburn, is about to leave Ewood Park.
According to Tipsbladet, Wahlstedt is expected to join Aarhus Gymnastikforening and depart Blackburn.
Former Leeds United manager Uwe Rosler is currently the manager of AGF, the Danish first division team.
Across all competitions, the goalie made 25 appearances for Blackburn in the previous campaign.
Wahlstedt will be signed by AGF
Wahlstedt and Aynsley Pears, who made 21 and 26 appearances in the Championship, respectively, fought for the top slot on the Rovers roster in the previous season.
It appears that the Swedish international will now move on.
The story claims that Wahlstedt will be joining AGF for about £850,000. In preparation for agreeing to a five-year contract with the Danish team, the 24-year-old is scheduled to have a physical on Monday.
After several weeks of watching the 24-year-old, it appears that AGF will be able to land their target, despite claims that Blackburn is looking for a new custodian.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell, a former custodian for Burnley who was on loan at AGF last season, was at Leeds during Rosler’s brief tenure at Elland Road.
Since his loan was about to expire, he signed with Birmingham City this summer, indicating that AGF gave priority to finding a replacement custodian during this transfer window.
Wahlstedt signed with Rovers for an undisclosed sum last summer from Norwegian team Odds BK, following Thomas Kaminski’s departure from Ewood Park to join Premier League team Luton Town.
Throughout his first season in England, he only managed three clean sheets in the Championship.
With two years left on Wahlstedt’s Ewood Park contract, Blackburn will probably be happy with the transfer fee they will get. Blackburn intends to recruit a new custodian this summer.
Tim Krul, a Dutchman, and seasoned custodian John Ruddy have been linked to a transfer to Blackburn, as John Eustace aims to bolster his custodian staff in advance of the 2024–25 season.
Blackburn head coach Eustace took over in February following Jon Dahl Tomasson’s departure. He secured survival on the final day of the season with an impressive 2-0 away win against champions Leicester City.
He will hope that he can improve his squad this summer, and hold onto the likes of Sam Szmodics and Tyrhys Dolan, as Rovers will aim to push on and compete in the top half of the Championship next season.
If bringing in a new goalkeeper can help Blackburn tighten up defensively, there is no reason why they cannot have a successful season next term. With golden boot winner Szmodics up front, they have a reliable source of goals, so they should be quietly optimistic as long as they can sort out their defensive issues.
Wahlstedt will not be a huge miss at Ewood Park next season, and Blackburn are commanding a reasonable fee for his services, so it looks like a good deal for all parties as Rovers prepare for another season in the Championship.
