The Tigers begin their away Championship campaign in Devon next month

Wayne Rooney, the new coach of New Plymouth Argyle, is excited about the Pilgrims’ first home game under his leadership, which is against Hull City.

Argyle will begin their second consecutive Championship season on August 11 when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday. However, the Green Army will get a first-hand look at Rooney’s revamped team at Home Park the following Saturday, and anticipation is building for that game.

The match is a rematch of the final-day encounter in which Argyle, in the interim leadership of Kevin Nancekivell and Neil Dewsnip, defeated the Tigers 1-0 to secure safety at the expense of Birmingham City, ending the Tigers’ slim hopes of making the playoffs. However, during the summer, both clubs have undergone significant change.

Legendary players Rooney of England and Manchester United has been appointed to Argyle, while Tim Walter, a former Hamburg manager, took over at City after Liam Rosenior was fired.

Rooney told reporters, “I’m really looking forward to the first game [at Home Park].” “The first home game against City is an opportunity to show the fans what we’ve been working on in preseason, but Sheffield Wednesday is the most crucial game right now.

“I was blown away by the atmosphere when I visited here in December with Birmingham. I’ve heard nothing but positive things about the football team and the location. There has been exceptional unity.

“I want my players to play with both energy and composure. As a head coach, it’s critical that you maintain composure and focus because the players will notice. We must operate with ingenuity.

We need to be realistic, so I won’t come out and declare we’re going to aim to make the Premier League in a year. Our goal is to build on the progress and improvement the club has shown over the previous five years.

“I believe that in order to progress, we must continue to move forward and strive to do better than we did the previous season. Hopefully, we can move closer to that Premier League by the end of the time frame we have.”
