According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Newport County and Cardiff City have agreed on a permanent move for Cameron Antwi.

After completing a medical exam next week, the 22-year-old will sign a two-year contract to play for Newport County.

After that is finalised, the midfield player should come in time for a complete preseason with his new team, and the deal will likely be made public.

Antwi made his Cardiff debut in 2022 after initially joining from Blackpool, however he has only made one cameo appearance.

Antwi, who is getting ready to move down the football pyramid in search of greater playing time, only played four minutes in the FA Cup last season and never participated in any Championship football.

Newport will be boosted by youth

The young midfielder might have struggled for minutes at Cardiff, but he does have some experience in the professional men’s game.

Earlier in his career, Antwi made two appearances for Blackpool and Southport in addition to eight games for Telford United.

Although Antwi is usually used in central midfield, he is also capable of playing more defensively, which gives him some variety in his play.

Cardiff hopes to be active in the transfer market in order to enhance the squad, but they may be willing to let Antwi go.

According to Football Insider, Edgardo Farina, who has made an impression in the Copa America, is being pursued by three clubs.

In other Leeds United news, Brighton has placed a further bid for the player.
