The Three Lions, who were on the verge of losing support due to poor performances and a lack of creativity and attacking intent in games early in the competition, have had mixed results from the tournament.

However, the country’s never-say-die mentality has ultimately seen them through, as evidenced by a number of thrilling comebacks in the semi-final, late equalisers, and winning goals the most recent meeting with the Netherlands.

Three Manchester players from Stockport, including Phil Foden, Kobbie Mainoo, and Cole Palmer, also had outstanding games in that match. All three players are from the centre of the park.

The head of Stockport Council, Councillor Mark Hunter, has extended a special message of well wishes to three local heroes who are shining for Gareth Southgate’s team in Germany ahead of Sunday night’s European Championships final between England and Spain in Berlin.

“We may be slightly biased but we believe that Stockport is a very special place to produce talent such as Stockport’s very own three lions in Phil Foden, Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer, who are on the verge of sporting greatness and looking towards success over Spain in the final on Sunday,” Hunter exclaimed in a new statement.

He continued, “Stockport is incredibly proud of all of its hometown heroes and has championed Phil Foden for a number of years, so we’re delighted to see Kobbie and Cole join Phil in becoming yet another alumni of Stockport to become an England international.

“We wish our young three lions and the rest of the England team the very best for Sunday – Stockport is behind you!”
