Serie A outfit Atalanta are working on another bid to recruit Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.
Atletico Madrid made a sizable bid to the Bhoys during the January transfer window, but Brendan Rodgers was hesitant to go with the 23-year-old midfield player.
Although Celtic is still unwilling to trade O’Riley, new difficulties can arise during the summer transfer window.
Despite having already turned down two offers from Atlanta, the Hoops are determined to sign him.
Journalist Luca Bendoni, who works for Gianluca Di Marzio, claims that Atalanta is considering making another approach for the Danish midfield player, who was outstanding for the Bhoys the previous season.
O’Riley received a second offer of about £12.6 million, but Celtic would have to demand a record amount for their top player, thus it was by no means acceptable.
O’Riley has approved the transfer, further complicating the situation. Stated differently, he is amenable to relocating to Atlanta for the summer.
Juventus, the dominant team in Serie A, is allegedly eager to sign the Danish midfielder as well.
He is willing to accept the five-year contract that the Bergamo club has offered him. The most difficult part of this transaction is that all they have to do is come to an agreement with Celtic.
Over the course of the previous season, O’Riley helped Celtic win 19 games and rack up 16 assists, and his efforts have not gone unappreciated.
The Bhoys seem to be at ease with his circumstances. The Hoops are not under any pressure to trade him because he is under contract for a long time at Celtic Park.
Celtic is closing an agreement to acquire Viljami Sinisalo, the custodian for Aston Villa, in an effort to bolster their roster.
In the summer transfer window, the Hoops are also on the verge of acquiring Danish custodian Kasper Schmeichel.
Celtic will suffer a great deal if O’Riley leaves, but if they are awarded a big transfer fee, they should have enough money to properly replace him.
