At approximately 5.40 p.m., emergency services were dispatched to a fatal traffic collision that occurred in Upham Road, an Old Walcot 20 mph zone.

At the intersection of South View Avenue and Silver Volkswagen, there was an altercation with a male in his 50s who was walking.

The victim, who is said to reside in the area, suffered severe injuries, and despite the best efforts of the medics, he was declared dead.

Roads policing sergeant Will Ayres stated that the man’s family has been notified and that specially trained officers are providing support.

The car’s driver fled the scene without stopping, and a desperate manhunt was launched around the neighbourhood.

Officers detained a 30-year-old local man shortly afterward on suspicion of involvement in the collision. He’s been brought to Gablecross detention to be questioned.

The involved Volkswagen has been blocked off and will be taken into custody for a forensic analysis.

Between Woodside Avenue, Brixham Avenue, and Campden Road, the road is closed.

At around 7.30 p.m., a thorough collision investigation got under way. It will probably take 12 hours to finish. It is improbable that it will reopen in the morning of tomorrow, June 18.
