Sheffield Wednesday fans banned by FA

A football fan has been banned for making racist gestures at a match – and the club has now been fined.

Sheffield Wednesday have been fined £12,500 after one of their fans was found to have made racist gestures towards Coventry City’s Kasey Palmer during a Championship game.

The supporter in question, Edward Rabjohn, was charged back in May and was banned from attending football games for a period of five years at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court. Recently, the club has also been hit with a charge by the FA.

According to an FA report, Rabjohn was observed “clearly” making monkey movements in Palmer’s general vicinity. In a police interview, he acknowledged making the motions as well.

2-1 was the final result at Hillsborough between Wednesday and Coventry in their match back in January. Josh Windass’ goal in the 68th minute was insufficient to keep the Owls in the game as Ben Sheaf scored a brace.

The official Sheffield Wednesday club website released the following statement: “After a thorough investigation, the perpetrator was found and subsequently brought to justice.

“This individual faces a lifetime ban from all Sheffield Wednesday games and club events in addition to the punishment handed down in court. After ten years, they will have the chance to participate in an EDI Code of Practice-compliant rehabilitation programme for all EFL clubs.”

Palmer stated, “Most football players accept that supporters pay good money and are entitled to have opinions about my performance on the pitch, whether that is good or bad,” back when Rabjohn was charged.

Racial gestures made in my direction or against anyone else are something I will never tolerate. This repulsive behaviour has one goal in mind: to humiliate me in front of everyone within the stadium as well as those viewing on television across the globe.
