The centre half is the latest new face to join Brown’s Somerset revolution – and he is one well known to the manager.
“I was halfway here when I saw his name on my phone. Really, there was nothing to ponder. I was ecstatic to learn that he wanted me here, and it was pretty simple for me to decide to attend and take part in this.”
Three-time Scotland cap winner Devlin thinks Brown’s unwavering motivation will benefit the high-achieving Ayr team this season.
“He is bringing all of the qualities he possessed as a player into management,” he stated. I attempted to absorb everything I could from seeing up close how he trained, acted, and dedicated himself at Aberdeen. You could observe his daily expectations and work ethic while working under him [at Fleetwood]. He expects the same things from his players that he did as a player. It’s a fundamental requirement, and I also attempt to apply myself in that way.
Thankfully, the manager is familiar with both my character and abilities, so maybe I can offer some leadership and experience to the team. I’ll speak up and contribute where I can. You need to be in an environment where success is a constant goal, and this squad has fierce competition.
“As a player, no matter what level you’re playing at, all you can hope for is the chance to be a part of something like this because it’s difficult to succeed in football. However, we have a chance here with a manager and assistant who have a track record of success. This is an excellent development for all parties concerned as they are eager to accomplish it.”
