A player who was heavily linked to Birmingham City is moving to a team that was demoted from the Premier League the previous year.
Harrison Burrows, a top player for Peterborough United, has reportedly been signed by Sheffield United. According to our sister publication The Star, which covers Sheffield United, there has been progress in the hunt for Burrows. After an agreement was reached a few weeks ago, he is scheduled to have a physical this week at Bramall Lane. Burrows is expected to join the Blades for a reported £3 million, with personal conditions already arranged, according to the Peterborough Telegraph.
Sheffield United ‘needed’ financial support to assist make the initial portion of the deal feasible, and now that Benie Traore is expected to be sold to FC Basel, their pursuit of Burrows can finally move forward. After Traore’s relocation to Switzerland is official, United can wrap up Burrows’ deal.
He was still under contract with the Posh, but because he wasn’t sure what to do with himself, he hadn’t participated in any of their preseason games. There was a friendly scheduled between them and West Brom, but their manager, Darren Ferguson, stated that interest in him had ‘increased in the previous 48 hours.’
Although Preston North End and Birmingham were rumoured to be interested in the 22-year-old, it is the Premier League’s demoted team that has emerged victorious. After their bid for Burrows was turned down, North End decided to move on without making a larger offer. Owner Darragh MacAnthony of Birmingham commented that while a “huge” League One team “really wants him,” the player was always going to end up in the Championship.
Although Burrows has proven himself at this level, it would have been beneficial to sign him, Birmingham is already well-equipped at left back. This season, Lee Buchanan will remain at St Andrew’s while Alex Cochrane has moved in from Hearts.
