Wolves have told Celtic they are open to loaning out left-back Hugo Bueno but want him to be playing regularly, sources have told Football Insider.

It’s understood the Scottish Premier League champions have made contact with the Premier League club about a season-long loan deal for the Spain Under-21 international.

As they prepare for the next phase of Bueno’s development, Wolves are eager for the 21-year-old to play regularly at the highest level and will take whatever offer comes from a team that has a well-defined development strategy.

Bueno will struggle to get first-team appearances since Matt Doherty and the in-form Rayan Ait Nouri are ahead of him in the pecking order.

In an attempt to challenge Greg Taylor, Celtic has been closely monitoring Bueno as well as other left-back loan candidates.

Celtic want Hugo Bueno to provide competition for Greg Taylor

The Spain Under-21 international has spent his whole professional career at Wolves, where he has made 49 appearances and scored one goal for the starting squad.

Bueno is an attacking full-back and was often utilised higher up the pitch as a left midfielder by Gary O’Neil last season.

Celtic are in dire need of adding a left-back, if Taylor was to get injured next season, they wouldn’t have any first-team players to cover him who are truly comfortable in the position.

Taylor recently played in Celtic’s 4-3 preseason victory over Manchester City in the USA. Taylor made 46 appearances for Celtic last season.

In other reports, Celtic plans to hire a new custodian in order to replace Joe Hart.
