Preston North End reportedly agreed deal with Standard Liege to wing-back signing

The RWD Molenbeek wing-back Ilay Camara is expected to be signed by Preston North End, defeating Standard Liege in the process.

The transfer live blog of Belgian media HLN (July 27, 22:06) reports that they have emerged victorious in the competition to sign the former Anderlecht player.

That’s despite the fact that the versatile wide player has drawn a lot of interest this summer, with PNE and teams like Burnley and Coventry City reportedly exploring moves for the 21-year-old, according to claims from Sacha Tavolieri, a journalist for The Lancashire Post.

Even though RWD Molenbeek was ultimately relegated this season, Camara was a standout player for the Brussels-based team in their first season back in the Belgian Pro League (2023–24).

After making appearances for Anderlecht, he joined Molenbeek last summer. It is said that the Championship trio would lose between £1.5 million and £2 million if they were to move for Camara.

Foreign teams have also expressed interest in signing the wing-back, namely Standard Liege and Stade de Reims in France. However, it had been rumoured that Molenbeek was thwarting those attempts.

The right-sided wide player played in 31 games for the Belgian team in the previous campaign, tallying three goals and providing seven assists. Camara’s attacking abilities are showcased by his performance, which is impressive for a player on a squad that was demoted.
