The body of a man has been found at a home in Jarrow.
He was discovered at a property on Thames Avenue by Northumbria Police after officers received a call just before 12.38am today.
The 45-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 44-year-old woman was arrested and remains in police custody where she is “helping officers with their enquiries”.
An investigation has been launched and attempts are being made to locate the man’s next of kin.
Officers will be in the area carrying out door to door enquiries and anyone with concerns is asked to get in touch.
