As Manchester United’s busy transfer window continues, Erik ten Hag has been warned about a potential transfer disaster that could be coming their way
In their long-term pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, United has newfound optimism. Having worked with the midfield maestro at Ajax throughout their historic journey to the 2019 Champions League semi-final, Ten Hag is well acquainted with him.
The Manchester Evening News, citing the Spanish daily Nacional, reports that United will now need to pay an additional £30 million because the £42.9 million bid was turned down.
Speaking on Footy Accumulators’ “No Tippy Tappy Football” podcast, Allardyce remarked, “It will be interesting to see whether Erik ten Hag can lead Man United to where they need to go now that he is settled.”
“It depends on whether the players are onside with him or not. I had a sneaky suspicion at the back end of last season that he lost a few players. I think that is a key element in terms of trust between the manager, players and backroom staff, is an absolute must if you’re going to finish in any position in the Premier League that you surprise people with.
Man United is going to shock everyone if they place first or second, but togetherness is something that seems to have been lost, therefore everyone needs to get on board. Scott McTominay became a goal scorer for both Man United and Scotland, therefore losing him would be disastrous for the team.
In the meantime, it’s known that if United is successful in selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a deal for De Jong will become more probable. The former Crystal Palace defender has spent the entire summer being linked to a move to West Ham United.
