Attacker sentenced to over six years in jail after stabbing Coventry taxi driver in neck and chest

After a savage knife attack on a Coventry cab driver, a man was given a six-year, nine-month prison sentence.

The attack was started on April 29 by Artur Nowostawski, 40, who was picked up from Coventry Railway Station. Shortly before the trip’s conclusion, the attack happened when the cab was travelling to Bennetts Road South.

Nowostawski demanded money from the driver by repeatedly striking him in the neck and chest with a knife. Following the event, the police responded quickly and released a public appeal to find Nowostawski. The next day, he was taken into custody. Nowostawski guilty to trying to rob someone and having an offensive weapon at Warwick Crown Court. The judge imposed his sentence on August 6. The risks that cab drivers confront are brought to light by this instance, as they are frequently the first responders to violent crimes. The severity of the offence is reflected in the long sentence.

DC “This was an unprovoked and sustained assault which left the victim with serious injuries,” stated Jack Phillips of Coventry CID.

“They are grateful to be on the path to recovery and were fortunate not to have suffered more severe injuries.

“This case took quick work from the officers to identify Nowostawski and arrest him in order to bring this case to court, and I’m glad he has been put behind bars for a significant period of time.”
