An air ambulance attended the scene at Johnstown at around 5pm.

An air ambulance was called to a serious crash that closed the A483 for hours.

The helicopter, two land ambulances, two rapid response paramedic cars and police were called to the collision involving a biker on the northbound carriageway at J2 for Johnstown just before 5pm.

Between J1 for Ruabon and J3 at Croesfoel, all lanes of the road were blocked while emergency personnel handled the situation.

Drivers are advised to avoid the region as a result of the closure, which caused an eight-mile congestion to form from the J5 for Mould Road in Wrexham to the A5 in Chirk.

According to Traffic Wales, the northbound carriageway is still closed as police do their investigation, however the southbound carriageway reopened at approximately 7 p.m.

The Welsh Ambulance Service stated they were unable to confirm any facts regarding injuries, thus at this time the biker’s status is unknown.

A spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports a road traffic collision on the A483 at 4.49pm. We responded with two emergency ambulances and two rapid response vehicles and were also supported by the air ambulance. We are unable to give any further details.”

A statement said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the A483 northbound J2 (Johnstown) at 1655hrs today involving a motorcycle. The road remains closed at this time. If you have any information please call on 101 ref X096824. Thank You.”
