The moment a truck caught fire on the road is captured in dramatic camera footage.

On Wednesday, the HGV caught fire on the M56’s eastbound carriageway between J14 for Hapsford and J12 for Runcorn. The highway was closed on both sides, and emergency personnel, including police and paramedics, were summoned to the area.

Drivers were told to avoid the area and a series of diversions were put in place. An eyewitness captured the huge flames billowing from the lorry as she travelled past the scene.

“We felt the heat inside the car as we drove by,” she said to the Manchester Evening News. It was frightening because I had never seen something like that before.

The truck driver was reported to be “safe and well” by Cheshire Fire and Rescue, and firemen extinguished the fire. The truck is thought to have been transporting cardboard garbage and a significant amount of top soil.

The fire department provided an update at approximately six in the morning, stating: “Crews were able to reach the flaming material and completely extinguish it by dragging the contents of the truck onto the highway. Just before three in the morning, the car was taken from the scene.

We spent about seven and a half hours in attendance. To facilitate resurfacing, one eastbound lanes of the freeway are still closed this morning.”

Around 2.30 am, the motorway’s westbound carriageway reopened. Due to emergency resurfacing repairs, one lane on the eastbound side between junctions 14 and 12 remained closed this morning. Since then, all lanes have been restored.
