BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — A deadly incident shut down I-65 southbound in Lebanon for several hours on Wednesday morning.

According to the Lebanon Police Department, officers were dispatched to I-65 near mile marker 139.5 for a possible pedestrian struck. They found a person dead in the road.

It happened between State Road 32 (Exit 140) and State Road 39 (Exit 139). All southbound lanes were closed as a result of the incident.

Police said a box truck struck a person on the interstate. The driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The entrance ramp also closed, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Lebanon Community School Corporation said the rerouting of traffic through town could lead to delays in Wednesday morning pickups at bus stops.

The interstate has since reopened, with southbound traffic moving for the first time since early this morning.

On Feb. 15, police said the pedestrian had been identified as Ritchie Barton of Indianapolis. Fingerprints were used to make a positive identification. The manner of death remains under investigation.
