After a deadly collision on the M62 in the wee hours of the morning, West Yorkshire Police is looking for witnesses.

Before learning of another incident at Scammonden bridge, police received reports that a Vauxhall Corsa was being driven the incorrect way on the motorway between Huddersfield and Oldham.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf, was gravely hurt and rushed to the hospital, while the driver of the Corsa was pronounced dead at the site.

“At 2.06 am, police received reports of a Vauxhall Corsa travelling westbound on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway,” a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson stated.

“After the vehicle was located by officers, it was discovered that it had collided with a VW Golf near Scammonden Bridge a short while before.

Regretfully, the male Corsa driver was declared deceased on the spot.

“The male driver of the golf cart had severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital for additional care.

Between junctions 22 and 24, both carriageways are still closed at this time.

“Motors are urged to find alternate routes while both closures are in effect. Both are anticipated to reopen by noon today.

“The major collision enquiry team is investigating this collision and would like to hear from anyone who saw, or who has footage of the collision or the grey Vauxhall Corsa prior to it.”
