Sources tell Football Insider that Arsenal are optimistic wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri will stay at the club despite interest from Chelsea and Man City.
The 16-year-old played 13 minutes off the bench as Arsenal defeated West Ham 6-0 on Sunday (11 February).
Nwaneri will sign a professional contract at the Emirates Stadium next month at 17.
Mikel Arteta is said to have him in his plans for 2023-24 and beyond.
Football Insider sources say veteran first-team players trust the young midfielder due to his talent.
Man City rejected proposal for ‘immense talent’ Nwaneri.
Chelsea and Man City will not approach Nwaneri due to his professional contract.
In case his first-team activity stagnates, the two Premier League heavyweights will monitor the 16-year-old.
City was “confident” of signing Nwaneri after discussing a contract, but that confidence has since faded.
His West Ham substitute appearance was his second senior appearance.
The Gunners made him the youngest Premier League player last season when he came on as a substitute against Brentford at 15 years and 181 days old.
Although he plays offensive midfield, Nwaneri has scored 11 goals in 10 age-group games in 2023-24.
Myles Lewis-Skelly, 17, has also progressed at Arsenal but has yet to make his first-team debut despite playing with the senior group this season.
