Ryan Grubb leaves DeBoer in Alabama for opportunity with Seattle Seahawks@

Dakota News Now, Seattle, Washington – Since Ryan Grubb and Kalen DeBoer had been dating since their NAIA days on the sidelines of the University of Sioux Falls, you knew it would take a significant event to separate them.

The opportunity to remain in Washington and take a position as offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL proved to be significant. Grubb served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator under DeBoer for a short time until his official introduction on Thursday.

Though he was committed to joining the Milbank native DeBoer with the Crimson Tide after running one of the top offenses in college football with the University of Washington over the past two seasons, Grubb had gotten to know new Seattle head coach Mike MacDonald a year ago at the NFL Draft Combine when he was the defensive coordinator at Baltimore and maintained the relationship up until he was recently hired by Seattle. Though Ryan wished the timing had been better, the opportunity to move to the NFL was one the former USF assistant couldn’t pass up.

The question now is who will become DeBoer’s offensive coordinator back at Alabama. Most speculation has centered on current assistant Nick Sheridan being promoted, though there has been some talk that DeBoer’s old USF teammate and former Sioux Falls Storm coach Kurtiss Riggs could even be an outside-the-box hire.
